Missing the point and other governmental wankery [Mar. 24th, 2009|09:27 am]
[mood | angry]
[music |Another Brick in the Wall]

Is it just me, or does anyone else spend a large amount of their time feeling like everyone is just somehow missing the point?! I am (as you may or may not know) attempting to get onto a teacher training course at the moment, and as part of this I have just been researching the new government initiatives. In particular the 'Every Child Matters' initiative. As part of this the government has made 'a renewed commitment to the importance of English and Maths at GCSE' and have attempted to 'replace the current system of over 3,500 qualifications' with the 'simpler' skills diplomas idea. On the surface this sounds almost ok. But think about it a bit. What is the fucking point of every single little bastard coming through school overdosing on English and Maths?! Not only will the system be saturated with a group of people who probably NEVER want to think about english or maths again, but they will be woefully undereducated in every other respect! When the government originally introduced literacy and maths hours in junior schools the idea was to integrate this system into the working day. Unfortunately, the number of specialised 'hours' required to be taught now means that after the literacy hour, maths hour, science hour, dinner, playtime and general wankery hour the school just about has time to get the kids' coats off before they have to go home again. This is what will happen in secondary schools under this new system. Again, the governmental objectives MISS THE FUCKING POINT! Secondary education is about producing WELL-ROUNDED, THOUGHTFUL, THINKING, INDIVIDUALS (with particular emphasis on the final two points) but the government's new initiative WILL NOT aid in producing this. All this initiative will do is take away more of the time that teachers NEED to work to producing what we actually need from our education system! Apparently schools should be emphasising ideas such as 'enjoy and achieve' (my personal favourite, since this is what teachers have generally been attempting to achieve from the last several decades, always in conflict with the government) - any school worth the name already practices the ideas which the government is now touting as revolutionary ideas that will somehow fundamentally change the education system. Kids achieve better when they're enjoying themselves?! Wow! I never thought of that one! My teachers weren't saying that TWENTY FUCKING YEARS AGO YOU WANKERS!
This rant may have been helped by the fact that I was listening to 'Another brick in the wall', but still...

Happiness [Mar. 22nd, 2007|12:51 am]
[mood | content]

Ok, I am aware that no one really uses this thing anymore (at least, no one that I know), but I have something that I wanted to say, and the only other way I have of saying it to anyone is by text - which is expensive.

I am very, very happy today. The world is actually quite a good place. Life is worth living and is a very beautiful thing. I would just like to say, I love Becca and I am so happy that things have worked out and stuff, and it makes life lighter just to be where we are.

This may be simply post-quoital glow, however, I just wanted to say that Ilove her and if anyone reads this then I kinda love you too.

Anyway, see ya, love ya... bye.

Meh [Mar. 19th, 2007|05:25 pm]
[Current Location |Bed]
[mood | tired]
[music |Gentle whirring of a processor]

It has been a very long time since I posted. So I thought I would. I'm bored.

However, Uni has ended for about a month - yay - meaning that I get to sit around the house and stress about all the things I should be doing so that when it starts again I'm not utterly wankered. Also, I get to do Housework. Mostly, because half the stuff, Becca can't do, and I'm therefore the only one that actuall does it.

Today has been odd. It has snowed/hailed/sleeted approximately 6 times since I got up (at about 10:30) and has been glorious sunshine the rest of the time. Except for now, when the sun appears to have run away because it's too cold and nearly time for bed anyway. I have been forced to be talked at by my manager for my Performance Review - which surprisingly was not anywhere near as bad as I might have expected - and have been wanked about by Barclays - because apparently, I have to speak to a student advisor to get my overdraft extended so that I don't go into debt and have to pay the bank an extortionate amount of money. And they don't HAVE a student advisor in our local branch - and had to pay nearly 10 quid for some washing powder. And now I just want to go to sleep and have it be... well, have it be next july actually, when I will have finished uni and will not have anything particularly stressful to worry about - except paying rent and not having a job and stuff.

Anyhoo... I have pretty much remembered why I don't update much - I don't have much to update with.

Tatty-bye

Exams [Jun. 29th, 2006|01:41 pm]

I have only one thing to say...

I passed!! Like, everything!

I know this is out of character but... OMG!

Also, I apologise, because I completely do not deserve to have passed, and am a thoroughly jammy bastard!

Sleep..... [Jun. 29th, 2006|09:18 am]
[mood | Knackered]

Okay, so, I've been up all night and I'm very very tired, because I was running a virus checker on my computer and it took nearly nine hours to run. I am knackered. Therefore, I apologise if there are any spelling/grammar errors in anything I am typing (not thinking of anyone in particularly who might take it upon themselves to moan at me *looks at nikifer*).

Just thought I'd update, 'cause I very rarely do and I'm bored 'cause of the lack of sleep. So, results are out today. Today I find out whether I'm resitting my first year exams, my entire first year, or whether I'm getting a job in Macdonalds. I am not looking forward to today very much. Still, life goes on and I shall do whatever I guess.

In other news, we are off for a very long time. Did anyone else notice, or was it just me?... I know it's not as bad for newly-ex-collegites, but I've been off since basically the end of April and I don't actually go back until the beginning of October!... I'm bored beyond belief!

So, other than my boredom, and trepidation about exams (quite proud that I can still use words like that when my brain is leaking from my ears through lack of sleep), there's not much to report. On the plus side though, because I was up all night I got to watch the sunrise and I must say 'twas very pretty. I recommend watching the sun come up regularly to anyone who needs a 'warm glow' moment.

So, that's about it. I'm bored and I don't know what to do with myself. Anyone else around?... No?... Fair enough, I'm going for coffee then...

Exams! [May. 18th, 2006|06:14 am]
[mood | tired]
[music |Being quiet cos everyone else on the street is asleep]

Hmm... This is going to get old if every bugger just updates with words along the lines of "Exam today/tomorrow, and I'm gonna fail cos 've done no revision and I don't wanna do it!"...

However, I believe that I should be allowed a small bitch... Firstly, I have an exam every morning at 9:30 for the next 3 days. This means 2 things... firstly, I have to get up at around 5:30 in order to get some breakfast and then get the earlier bus into town so that I can make it to my exam plenty early. Secondly, don't know if you noticed but I said "for the next 3 days"... which means 9:30 on thursday (today), 9:30 on friday (tomorrow) and 9:30 ON SATURDAY!!! I have a fucking exam at half nine on a fucking saturday morning!!! What the fuck!!!???

Also, I have done absolutely no revision for this exam, I am supposed to know at least a moderate amount of detail about at least 3 entire ancient civilisations and I am right royally knackered. Basically, I am so fucked I may as well just ask for my fail mark now and just bypass the whole exam thing!

So, anyway... yeah, I'm knackered and therefore going to down more coffee... see you guys around later if I haven't died...

umm... its 2:20ish in the morning... what topic!? [May. 12th, 2006|02:22 am]
[mood | Knackered but finished]

Woohooo... Finished my essays! Yay me. There probably shi-ite but I. Dont. Care.

Anyhoo, I'm off to bed now cos I'm done working and therefore I'm actually allowed to sleep!... How good is that!?

p.s. I am aware that this is all my fault for leaving two essays to do until LITERALLY the night before they're due (I started them both properly at about 7:00ish), but I honestly can't seem to get anything done any sooner... I actually sat down to do them about a week ago and got such bad writer's block that J.K. Rowling was constipated for a week.

The Pyrrhonian
The results are in, and it appears that you have scored 56%...
Quietly confident and aloof, the Pyrrhonian recognises that religions exist and that people subscribe to them, but manages to keep well out of it all. Pyrrhonians came to the realisation long ago that all matters of faith are beyond the scope of reason or argument, and thus retains a clear-headed skeptical approach to religion in general. They refuse to place belief in anything for which there is no proof, and regard the majority of theistic claims as irreconcilable. Leading a life of tranquility undisturbed by religious concerns, the position of the Pyrrhonian is enviable, if a little frustrating for others at times.
